Traditionally, street photography is an established method of documentary investigation made popular in the 20th century by greats such as Eugene Atget and Walker Evans. Following the Second World War, photographers like Robert Frank, Garry Winogrand, and Diane Arbus began to look at photography and the street in very different and less conventional ways. The theater of the street and the man-altered landscape offers the photographer a wide range of possibilities and presents useful challenges. Photographer Michael Hintlian will host a hands-on street photography workshop with a comprehensive look at producing bodies of work. Serious work depends not only on equipment and shooting but the editing that follows, for this reason the workshop will alternate between weeks of shooting on locations and open critique for editing and reviewing content.
On location weeks, class will meet at a predetermined location in Boston where each photographer will work independently, the following week the class will meet in the classroom to review and edit work from that week.
Photographers will want a working technical knowledge of their equipment and the use of digital imaging software to get the broadest value of the workshop. Although occasional technical material will be discussed or given reference, the workshop will not be technical in nature.
This class meets on campus and off-site locations in and around Boston and includes one orientation ZOOM meeting
