Spring Break at MassArt is for Students in grades 7-12

Registration for Spring Break at MassArt is open until March 24 on a space available basis!

Classes run from 10:00am - 3:00pm each day

About

Take a break this April to explore your surroundings with fresh eyes. Spring Break at MassArt helps us notice the extraordinary in the ordinary. The program will meet Tuesday through Friday during Boston Public School's April Vacation Week. Students register for one of four classes. Spring Break offers a creative and supportive environment for students in grades 7-12 to come together and try something new! In-person and online offerings are available.


Class descriptions

Classes are offered in the format indicated next to their title.


Fashion Upcycling (In-Person)
Make something to suit yourself. A great way to recycle is to upcycle. Students explore hand sewing techniques and basic pattern making to deconstruct, alter, and combine garments into one-of-a-kind fashion pieces. This class will include hand sewing, fashion illustration, and sustainability. Upcycle garments to give them a new life.

Life Drawing (In-Person)
Explore traditional and innovative ways of drawing from life. Students expand their technical skills through a variety of creative exercises. Students will work in multiple mediums and styles.

Printmaking (In-Person)
Students learn about the tradition of printmaking with a focus on the monotype. Students are introduced to sustainable approaches to printmaking, and assist each other in this collaborative art practice.

Drawing in the Gallery (In-Person)
In this exploratory drawing class, students take advantage of the vibrant cultural community of MassArt and neighboring art institutions.Students will work in conversation with MassArt student exhibitions, and local museum collections. This class is an excellent opportunity for students interested in learning about historic and contemporary art.

Stories in Motion (Online)
Tell the stories that are important to you: from your daily routines, to your dreams. Students will learn basic animation, film language, and editing tools. Collaboration, group discussions, and in-class activities will help students develop their narrative.

To participate in this virtual workshop, students will need access to a computer, laptop, or smartphone with video/camera capabilities, and a reliable internet connection. 

Online studio offerings include, but are not limited to:

  • Live presentations from faculty and check-ins each class
  • Time for creative art making, both independently and in class
  • Break out sessions in small groups
  • One-on-one and group critiques with faculty

This studio workshop will use Zoom for its meetings.


Program Information AND cost

Spring 2024 Program Fee: $365
Materials and supplies not included in the program fee and are purchased by the participant. Assistance with supplies is available.

Payment is due in full by March 22, 2024.

Registration 
Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served and space available basis. Submission of a registration form does not guarantee enrollment in a class. If you submit a registration form and your preferred classes are full, you will be placed on the waiting list and notified as soon as possible if a space becomes available.

Scholarships
Scholarships are based on financial need and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to request a scholarship. To be considered, you will be asked to provide family financial information on the registration form.

Cancellation Policy
MassArt reserves the right to cancel courses in the event of an insufficient number of registrations. Students will receive a full refund in the event that a course is cancelled for this reason. Classes with low enrollment will be cancelled at least two weeks before the start of the program.
 

Dropping & Refund Policy
Students will receive a full refund if the class is dropped at least one week prior to the start date of the class. Students who fail to notify MassArt Youth Programs of their registration cancellation in writing, prior to one week before the start of the program will not be eligible for a refund.
