This 7-week class introduces students to the fundamentals of interactive video. In-class lectures provide a space for discussing the conceptual foundations of interactive art and reviewing influential works in interactivity and moving image. Demos explore various techniques for creating interactive control using Isadora, ranging from basic real-time manipulation of digital video to sound-triggered events and motion tracking. In-class activities will involve the use of live video, so access to a computer with a built-in webcam and microphone is required. Throughout this class, students develop a personal project centered on their chosen topic. Students are welcome to explore projects that intersect with other artistic disciplines. Group critiques and 1:1 meetings will provide opportunities to receive feedback and guidance on personal projects. Experience working with digital video is preferred but not required.
