This course combines the foundations of traditional animation with multidisciplinary artist practices. You will be introduced to a wide variety of experimental animation techniques including registration-less animation, under the camera animation, replacement animation, 2-D paper puppets, and rotoscoping. We will cover how to set-up a DIY home animation studio as well as introduce digital tools including Stop Motion Studio and Creative Cloud (Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere). This course consists of screenings, discussions, critiques and studio. Screenings of experimental animation films include historical and contemporary perspectives, and the class will end with an online celebration of student work. Connect with an online animation community to further inspire you and learn how to merge your existing art practice with experimental animation.
