Comics Journalism: Graphic Medicine

Graphic storytelling can be a beautiful and emotive way to tell larger social and political stories that give us insight into the lives of others. Graphic Medicine is the genre of comics which tell stories, creates informative pamphlets and narrates the experience of illness, both physical and mental health related. This version of Comic Journalism will focus on GRAPHIC MEDICINE, while still covering the wider field of Comics Journalism. This course will focus on how to develop a visual voice’ in graphic storytelling, how to work quickly with an editor or an administrator and some basic ethics for making medical or other journalistic comics in the graphic form. Each student will choose a topic to research and represent visually while researching a venue where it could be released into the public sphere.
