Michael Joyce is an Associate and Senior Architect with the consulting group Stantec Architecture and and adjunct visiting lecturer at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. His has a background in the fields of architecture, urban design and art which he often develops in a synthesis of creative exploration in his built work, competition proposals and research in sustainable design. Michael received his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and holds a Masters in Architecture from MIT. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a registered architect in Massachusetts.

An accomplished designer, his experience includes a variety of large-scale building typologies from award winning courthouse design and academic facilities to sophisticated science research centers, welcome pavilions, campus sports facilities, as well as urban and campus precinct design. Michael has worked abroad in Germany and England while contributing to design on projects in Europe, Japan, India and Israel.

An architect and artist by training, he brings a comprehensive set of creative and technical skills to design solutions for buildings, place making and urban interventions.

Most of his work involves a narrative dialogue of scale between the interaction of the site and the design response-creating intended multiple readings. Currently he is exploring how the built environment and user experience can be improved as related to sense of place, wellness, resilient design and building enclosure technology.
