Dave Ortega

Dave Ortega is a cartoonist and illustrator originally from El Paso, Texas. His comics are rooted in family history and Latin American narratives, including Días de Consuelo, his award-winning graphic novel about his grandmother’s early life during the Mexican Revolution which was featured in the Society of Illustrators 65 Annual. In their review of Hacienda, his current comic series, The Comics Journal wrote, “Comic book writing doesn’t get better than this.” Dave currently teaches in the Illustration and Integrated Studies departments at Lesley University as an adjunct professor and was a visiting artist at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago for a 3-week undergraduate intensive comics course. His work is in the permanent collections of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum. In addition to leading teen comic workshops for the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, he also freelances in illustration, graphic design, and video.
