This course is designed to develop strengths in drawing and painting from observation. By reducing the visible to its simplest terms, students will circumvent preconceived ideas to find the surprising and unexpected. The fundamental language of painting (shape, value, and color) will be central throughout the semester. We will focus on the craft of oil painting, the act of perception, and the process of translating that activity into a painting. This approach will increase your options and serve your personal goals in painting. Looking at historical and contemporary paintings will place the practice in a larger context. Oil paint is the suggested medium. We will work from the model and other sources. [Formerly titled Cornelia:Represent. Painting]

Please note:

That this is not a beginner painting class. Painting experience is required.

This class meets in person at MassArt.
