Literature in Dialogue is a dynamic and inclusive immersion into the world of literature across historical periods, genres, and cultural traditions. Designed specifically for artists and designers, this course invites students to explore literature as both an art form and a powerful lens for understanding the world and our place within it. Throughout the semester, we read and discuss a range of literary texts, weaving (from the Latin textus, meaning “weave”) a central theme or guiding question a central theme or question in and across them. Students engage with these works not only through analytical writing but also through creative and multimedia projects that place literature in dialogue with their own or others’ artistic practice. This course prepares students to integrate literature into their MassArt journey, their lives, and their creative careers – broadening their storytelling skills and deepening their reading and interpretive practice across disciplines.

MassArt BFA Students:
Literature in Dialogue is a prerequisite for all upper-level literature, film studies, and creative writing (LW) courses in Humanities. We recommend that students enroll in the course during their sophomore year.
