Drawing is the process of creative thinking and discovery. When you are engaged in the process of transforming materials, you’re also opening new pathways by changing how you see and know as a person and an artist In this class we will explore abstraction and what it can reveal through the manipulation of a range of materials on paper. Together, through class discussions we’ll examine how each of you can construct the individual framework by which exploration gives way to examining and growing ideas. As a group, we’ll question and challenge commonly held beliefs and assumptions about drawing, and how to direct a process in less known territory to make discoveries. This class is open to all levels and backgrounds. No prior experience with drawing is required and the atmosphere in class is non- intimidating. Building confidence and learning to trust in your intuitive powers will form a map of possibilities for you to follow. We will test all sorts of questions without the pressure of necessarily seeking answers, basically living in the questions. Making contact with your own voice will be strongly encouraged. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have choltzman@massart.edu or ce@massart.edu.
