Rich and expressive, monotype joins the graphic qualities of printmaking with the spontaneity of painting. This hands-on workshop teaches the basics of chine colle, pronto plate, collagraph, as well as other processes, and explores the sequential possibilities of monotype to develop images conceptually and formally. Image-making methods, ink handling, print tools, paper handling, single- and multipass printing, hand coloring, and the development of “ghost” imagery, are covered. Individual and group critiques as needed. All levels welcome.

This class meets in person on campus at MassArt.

Supplies for Experimental Monoprint

The most important thing to bring is printmaking paper, newsprint and a notebook. I recommend Rives BFK paper – it is available in a variety of colors and is very sturdy and works great for what we will be doing. There is also a Rives paper that is a little thinner, but also works well. Please take a risk at the art shops and buy some random papers such as Kitikata, Hosho, or really any variety of thin or thick hand made papers- try to avoid papers that have chunky organic materials embedded in the paper. Also please purchase a roll of blue shop towels.
More information will be
available upon registration.
