This class is an exploration of the creative potential inherent in the relationship between subject and environment in portraiture. Students explore and refine their approach to making portraits throughout the class. Successful strategies used in portraiture will be discussed and employed to create compelling images of students’ subjects. Understanding of lighting, both natural and artificial, strobe and continuous will be developed. Scouting, planning and implementation of considered choices about locations, along with posing, gesture, and composition are examined. Combining these elements unites the subject and the environment into a cohesive image with significant narrative potential.
