In this digital capture / photo production intensive, students are introduced to the creative and technical possibilities of digital photography while exploring photographic history and current practices. Participants learn to use a digital (DSLR or mirrorless) camera to create photographs using raw file formats and fully manual controls. Topics covered include camera operations (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lens focal lengths, focus modes) as well as lighting, framing, and more advanced techniques including focus stacking and tethered shooting. Assignments target the weekly lesson and aim to push students’ creativity by applying the tools learned. Class goals include discovering new ways of seeing, expanding understanding of the photographic medium, honing digital shooting skills, and developing / deepening students’ understanding of their equipment.
