Using digital capture devices, students examine the ways in which light shapes our perception of the world around us, and explore the possibilities of light as a tool in their artistic practice. Technical assignments aim to harness the power of existing/found light as well as supplementary sources including strobe and continuous lighting, and students experiment with modifying and adapting light to convey mood and emotion. This is a technical class with real-world applications including DIY photographic techniques, as well as a portfolio development opportunity, allowing students to expand their body of photographic work to include new techniques, stylistic approaches, and ideas.
