This seven-week technical and creative intensive explores the possibilities of sound, as a key component of visual time-based media and as an art in its own right. Students learn best practices of sound production, exploring field, vocal, and foley recording, while building technical skills in audio capture. Using a range of Digital Audio Workstation software (including Adobe Audition, which is free to all enrolled students), participants delve into the possibilities of sound post-production including sound design for video, sampling, and soundscape-building. Experimental sound artists as well as filmmakers and video artists who foreground sound in their work are explored alongside technical demonstrations, individualized work sessions, and group critique.
