This 7-week class focuses on developing a student-directed animation project from start to finish. The class is structured to allow students to gain a deeper understanding of methods for creating a fully-realized animated video. By focusing on a single project, students have the opportunity to bring greater expressiveness and innovation to their work. Through lectures and screenings, students explore full-scale animation workflows in depth, including pre-production and post-production processes, including how to pitch an idea, storyboarding, animatics, sound design, compositing, editing, titles, and final video outputs. Students employ the animation software or technique of their choice, and together we will use Adobe After Effects, Premiere, and Media Encoder for all pre- and post-production steps.. Throughout the class, students share their work-in-progress in a series of presentations and group critiques. Basic knowledge of at least one modality of animation is required for all students, as this class does not offer specific how-to animate instruction, but rather focuses on personalized project development and working toward a final finished film.
