This course will take an academic and experimental approach to drawing. We’ll explore the character of various media such as charcoal, graphite, pen and ink-wash. Color will be used for its expressive nature, allowing us to engage the potential of chalk/oil pastels, markers, colored pencils, and a combination of media. We’ll work from observation in efforts to increase technical skills and theme-based approaches that depart from representation to develop ideas. Projects are process-oriented and may manifest as a small-scale series or one complete piece. They are designed to be accomplished in one session so that something is gained from each meeting.
*A small sketchbook and set of pencils will be needed. Recommended: mixed media sketchbook (Canson XL, 9×12 or larger, 98lb or more) or any other brand of paper as long as it’s heavy and can take wet and dry media.
We urge you, if you are able, to be fully up-to-date on vaccinations, including boosters. Available vaccination sites can be found here.
