Box Making for Book Artists
Saturday and Sunday
In this weekend-long intensive students learn to build boxes for artist’s books. Boxes, in addition to providing a protective case, can enhance the concept of an artist’s book and add a degree of professionalism to any book. Students will start by building a standard tray from book board and learn the process for wrapping it in paper. A variety of box types will be taught including clam-shell, french door, matchbox, and more. Students will then be able to pick a style and execute it with support from the instructor. Students should have some knowledge of working with book making supplies and should bring their own book (or similar object) to build a box for. Some tools required, materials provided.
