This course exposes students to a variety of specialized woodworking techniques applicable to furniture production. Through a series of modules devoted to select skills, sessions explore the basics of techniques with the objective of giving students enough exposure to begin applying them independently to studio projects. Areas include carving and shaping, steam bending, bent lamination and turning. Modules alternate between MassArt and the North Bennet Street School and are taught by local working artists, master craftspeople, designers, and specialists. Students can sign up for individual modules or the full class as a three-credit class.
Previous woodworking experience is suggested, but not required.
